Synapse on a Mac

Self-hosted Matrix homeserver · Push Services

Synapse is the reference Matrix homeserver — run your own federated chat & notification backend instead of relying on matrix.org. Install with Homebrew (matrix-synapse), generate a config (synapse_homeserver --generate-config), then start it. The client-server API listens on :8008 and federation on :8448. It's the server side of the Matrix stack — pair it with the Element client and the Matrix Notifications channel above. For a web admin UI, add synapse-admin separately.

Run Synapse with FrontierStack

FrontierStack lists Synapse in its Push Services catalog. Install or connect it from one place, then monitor its status, ports and certificate, secure it with the firewall and Malware Audit, and back it up.

Run it all from one Mac app.

FrontierStack installs, monitors and secures the whole stack — locally and across your fleet — from a single native macOS app.
