RDMA gives kernel-bypass, zero-copy transfers; RoCE (RDMA over Converged Ethernet; RoCE v2 is UDP 4791) and iWARP (RDMA over TCP) on standard NICs, underpinning NVMe-oF/RDMA, SMB Direct and HPC/AI. Tooling (Linux rdma-core + iproute2): rdma link show, rdma resource show qp, ibv_devinfo, ibv_devices; per-port counters under /sys/class/infiniband/*/ports/*/counters (RoCE also via ethtool -S). RoCE needs lossless Ethernet (PFC/ECN); watch pause frames and the rx/tx discards. No macOS support. Monitor link state + error counters over SSH.
