Apache ZooKeeper is a replicated coordination service used for naming, configuration, leader election and distributed locks. Current Kafka can use KRaft without ZooKeeper, but many Hadoop, HBase, Solr and older Kafka deployments still depend on a ZooKeeper ensemble.
