SurfSense is an open-source AI research assistant (a self-hosted NotebookLM/Perplexity) that connects an LLM to web sources; Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, Google; and your own knowledge, reachable by web UI, REST API or an MCP server. Self-host with Docker Compose (a one-line installer or the full stack): frontend on :3000, backend API on :8000 (Postgres :5432). Apache-2.0, with one BSL-1.1 backend subdirectory. Cloud option available.
