LibreTranslate on a Mac
Self-hosted machine-translation API (offline DeepL/Google Translate alternative) · Tools
LibreTranslate is a self-hosted translation API built on Argos Translate's open models; 30+ languages, translated entirely on your own hardware, so text never leaves your machine. Install with pipx (pipx install libretranslate, then run libretranslate) or Docker (libretranslate/libretranslate); the web UI and REST API listen on :5000. The API is a simple POST /translate (q, source, target) plus /detect and /languages; point apps, scripts or a browser extension at your own server instead of a cloud translator. First run downloads the language models; use --load-only en,ja,de to keep the footprint small.
