Open Computer (Mintplex Labs, the AnythingLLM team) gives an AI agent a whole disposable computer instead of a shell on yours: each agent gets an isolated QEMU virtual machine (Debian base, ~2.9 GB, ~100 MB per-agent overlay) with a browser, terminal, editor and file manager, and a live UI so you can watch and take over in real time. The point is to stop running agents with --dangerously-skip-permissions against your own host — a bad step wrecks a throwaway VM, not your machine. It drives native apps via accessibility APIs rather than screenshots (about 60% fewer tokens than vision-based computer use), supports bring-your-own harness (OpenClaw, Hermes…) and any OpenAI-compatible model, local or cloud, and can fork an agent with its current state. macOS ARM64 and Windows x64; run with open-computer create/up agent --dev. AGPL-3.0. Needs a model with at least a 16K context.
