GitLab is a complete DevOps platform; repositories, merge requests, issues, a container registry and built-in CI/CD; in two editions: Community Edition (CE, open source) and Enterprise Edition (EE, the same install with Free/Premium/Ultimate features unlocked by a licence). Every way to run it is covered here. Hosted by GitLab: GitLab.com (multi-tenant SaaS, Free/Premium/Ultimate) or GitLab Dedicated (single-tenant SaaS in the cloud region you choose, plus Dedicated for Government); nothing to install; add a token below for a live dashboard. Self-managed: the Linux package (Omnibus, for Ubuntu/Debian/RHEL/Amazon Linux VMs and bare metal), the official Docker image (gitlab/gitlab-ce or gitlab/gitlab-ee, amd64 and arm64; the buttons below run it on this Mac), the Helm chart or GitLab Operator on Kubernetes, and the GitLab Environment Toolkit (GET; Terraform + Ansible that stands up a Reference Architecture for 1,000–50,000 users on GCP, AWS, Azure or your own Linux servers; supported for Premium/Ultimate). GET is a deployer, not a server: it runs from this Mac as the control node but always targets Linux hosts or Kubernetes, so there is still no GitLab server build for macOS; the local option is Docker. Automate with the GitLab API or the glab CLI; put a self-managed or Dedicated address under Remote Instance below to health-check it. Pipelines have their own entry in CI/CD (GitLab CI/CD) and job hosts use GitLab Runner.
