Running a whole online shop from one Mac: Rakuten Ichiba, Yahoo! Shopping, Shopify and everything behind them

Published 2026-10-08

Ask a shop owner in Japan what their store runs on and the honest answer is a list. A Rakuten Ichiba shop and a Yahoo! Shopping store. Their own site on Shopify, BASE or EC-CUBE. Stripe or PAY.JP for cards, and PayPay because customers expect it. Next Engine or CROSS MALL to keep stock and orders in one place, a warehouse, and Yamato and Sagawa accounts. Underneath it all sit a domain, DNS, certificates and the mail server that sends every order confirmation. Each has its own console, its own keys and its own way of failing quietly. FrontierStack doesn't replace any of them. It gives the whole set one place to set up, watch and ask about.

Start with the parts customers never see

The failures that embarrass a shop most are in the plumbing: an expired certificate on the checkout, a DNS change that takes the site offline, order confirmations landing in spam. FrontierStack already handles these for any site. Sites and Certificates look after your own storefront (EC-CUBE and WooCommerce run happily on a Mac or a linked server). Domain Health watches DNS, nameservers and registration expiry. The mail tools check SPF, DKIM and DMARC so the "thank you for your order" email arrives. Uptime checks and Alerts cover the storefront itself.

The marketplaces, starting with Rakuten

Rakuten Ichiba is the channel most shops can't afford to lose, and it has a trap. RMS integrations sign in with a serviceSecret and a licenseKey, and the licenseKey expires on a fixed date. When it does, every tool that talks to RMS stops at once: order import, stock sync, label printing. It is usually discovered when orders pile up unconfirmed.

FrontierStack's Rakuten Ichiba (RMS) monitor reads that expiry date straight from RMS and warns you 14 days ahead. With the order API enabled on the licence, it also shows today's orders and sales, orders still waiting for confirmation (注文確認待ち) and orders waiting to ship. Pin it, and an unconfirmed order or a licence about to lapse becomes an alert on your phone, by email, LINE, Slack or whichever channel you use. Rakuten's figures join Stripe, PayPal, Square, Shopify, WooCommerce, Color Me Shop, PAY.JP and KOMOJU on the Sales Channels board. It totals each currency separately and never converts between them.

If you use the public Rakuten APIs for product search, rankings or affiliate links, note the 2026 change. Calls now go to openapi.rakuten.co.jp and need an accessKey as well as the application ID. The Rakuten Web Service monitor checks both. It also tells apart the three reasons a call is refused: a bad key, an IP address that isn't on the app's allow-list, or a missing Referer for a Web Application app. Rakuten Advertising, the international affiliate network, is covered too.

Yahoo! Shopping, Amazon, Qoo10, au PAY Market and Mercari Shops are in the catalog with what each one needs: which keys, where they're issued and how long tokens last. Yahoo!'s refresh tokens run for four weeks, so an unattended job has to keep refreshing them. FrontierStack keeps the credentials in the Keychain and links each console. Their day-to-day orders usually flow through an order hub, which brings us to the back office.

Order hubs, warehouses and carriers

Most multi-marketplace shops in Japan push everything through Next Engine, CROSS MALL or zaiko Robot, for one order queue and one stock count. Fulfilment goes to Rakuten Super Logistics or your own warehouse, and labels to Yamato (B2 Cloud), Sagawa (e飛伝Ⅲ) or Japan Post. Japan Post is also worth a look for checkout forms. Its free postcode and digital-address API turns a seven-digit postcode into an address. It only answers up to ten registered IP addresses, so it belongs on your server, not in the shopper's browser.

Keys that expire, and keys that come in pairs

An online shop collects credentials: two RMS values, an application ID and access key, client IDs and secrets, payment keys. Paired with KeyRotate, FrontierStack hands each pair over as one value (serviceSecret:licenseKey, applicationId:accessKey). KeyRotate shows the RMS licence's expiry date beside the key and reminds you before it lapses. Once you've issued the new key in RMS, it writes it into the .env and config files you've linked to it.

Ask instead of clicking through fifteen consoles

The AI Administrator has an ecommerce tool that reads every connected shop, marketplace and payment channel in one go. Ask "how are my shops doing today?", "any Rakuten orders waiting?" or "is my RMS key still valid?". You get today's, this week's and this month's figures per currency, what needs attention, and which services you haven't connected yet. The tool is read-only and never returns a key. If you're setting up a new store, ask it which services you'll need and which of them FrontierStack can watch for you.

Not just Japan

The same approach covers the other markets FrontierStack knows well: Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon, eBay, Etsy and Walmart Marketplace. In Korea it covers Coupang Wing, Naver, Cafe24, MakeShop and imweb, several with live monitors of their own. Payment providers range from Stripe and PayPal to Toss Payments and KOMOJU.

A setup checklist

  1. Point the domain, issue the certificate, and check SPF, DKIM and DMARC for the address that sends order mail.
  2. Open Rakuten Ichiba (RMS), enter the serviceSecret and licenseKey, and pin it.
  3. Connect your payment providers and your own cart, then open Sales Channels.
  4. Record the marketplace, order-hub and carrier logins in their catalog entries, so they're all in one place with each console a click away.
  5. Pair KeyRotate so expiring and paired keys are tracked.
  6. Ask the AI Administrator "how are my shops doing?", and let Alerts tell you when the answer changes.

Run it from your Mac.

FrontierStack installs, monitors and secures services on this Mac and on linked servers; and keeps your passwords and keys out of any AI's sight.
