Istio is the feature-rich service mesh — Envoy sidecars (or ambient mode) give mTLS, fine-grained traffic management (canary, mirroring, retries), policy and rich telemetry across services. Install the istioctl CLI (brew install istioctl), then istioctl install into a cluster; pair with the Kiali dashboard and Prometheus/Grafana for observability.
