OSSEC is the classic open-source host intrusion detection system (HIDS) — log analysis, file-integrity monitoring, rootkit detection and active response, with a manager/agent model. Wazuh is its actively-developed fork with a full SIEM/XDR UI; choose OSSEC for a lean, self-contained HIDS. Install from the project (packages / source); configure ossec.conf and forward alerts to your SIEM/Logging stack.
