Apache Subversion (SVN) is the long-standing centralized version-control system — a single repository with atomic commits, branches/tags as paths, and fine-grained path-based authz. Install the toolset with Homebrew (brew install subversion — provides svn, svnadmin, svnserve). Serve repositories with svnserve (svn:// on port 3690) or over HTTP(S) via Apache + mod_dav_svn (pairs with this stack's Apache/WebDAV). Create repos with svnadmin create; still common for legacy and asset-heavy projects, and a frequent migration source to Git.
