Zigbee lighting, bridge API, wall switch module · Home Automation
Philips Hue (Signify) is the Zigbee lighting system: bulbs, light strips, plugs, motion sensors and dimmers, coordinated by the Hue Bridge. The bridge exposes a local CLIP v2 REST API over HTTPS (an application key, created by pressing the link button) and advertises itself over mDNS, so FrontierStack classifies it as a Smart Hub on the network. The Hue wall switch module is a battery-powered Zigbee unit that fits behind an existing wall plate, turning a normal light switch into a Hue controller: the fixture stays permanently powered so the smart bulbs keep working, and the physical switch sends Zigbee button events instead of cutting the mains. It solves the classic problem of someone flipping the switch and orphaning the bulbs. Like every Zigbee accessory, it has no IP address and cannot be found by a network scan — it appears through the Hue Bridge, or in the Zigbee pane when paired to Zigbee2MQTT or deCONZ instead of the Hue Bridge, where FrontierStack shows its vendor, model, link quality and battery level. It reports button presses rather than an on/off state, so it lists as a read-only device: there is nothing to switch on it, which is correct rather than a limitation.
