B.A.T.M.A.N.-adv is a layer-2 mesh routing protocol used by community wireless networks (Freifunk) — nodes see one big virtual switch and the protocol picks the best multi-hop path. It's a Linux kernel module managed with batctl; run it on Linux mesh nodes/routers (not macOS-native). Pairs with OLSR/Babel as routing alternatives.
