Apache Airflow authors, schedules and monitors data pipelines as Python DAGs — the standard for batch ETL/ELT orchestration. Self-host via pip (pip install apache-airflow) or Docker Compose; the webserver UI runs on :8080. A stable REST API lets other services trigger DAG runs and read task state. Back its metadata DB up with Database Ops.
